Innumerable facets of human emotions essentially
inspire ELA – which means ‘Mother Earth’ in Sanskrit. The collection aims at
transmitting a spiritual analysis of these facets. Usage of a wide range of
textures on shades of broken whites and beiges resonate the designer’s
inclination towards the concept of subtle playfulness.
The design sensibility, which is reflected in the
creations of ELA, speaks volumes about the journey undertaken by a young
designer who seeks to explore fabric as an intimate medium of expression. The
textures and the silhouettes used, indeed have a narrative quality. An
interesting mélange of fabrics coupled with subtle embroidery details, invokes
elements of spontaneity and naivety. The overall feel is intertwined yet free
flowing, soft and fragile.
According to Joyjit Talukdar, “Everyday we can make a conscious
choice with clothes that can flag a better world. It is a simple act which can
contribute to the betterment of the society and environment at large.”
The entire collection is made in organic cotton or
cotton produced from non-genetically modified plants, that is certified to be
grown without the use of chemicals like pesticides, fertilizers, etc. The
fabric is 95% organic cotton and no bleaching and dyeing processes are used.
Apart from the several acclaims and admirations, Vogue
India has listed ELA as one of the designers to watch out for this year.
